Health & Wellness Corner

Positive mental health is an important part of a healthy life.

Keeping a healthy mindset is not always easy. Here are a few tips that will help you clear your mind of the junk that not only brings you down, but will also effect your physical well-being…

Barefoot walking/running. There have been many proven positive benefits of barefoot walking/running, from better posture, less stress for your feet, less stress for your joints, etc .

Purge negative people from your life. You don’t need toxic people in your life. If you feel that a friend is overly critical or negative, then let them go!

Purge negativity from yourself. You don’t need negativity from yourself either. Listen in on the thoughts that come up in your mind and get rid of the negative thoughts you hear. A lot of eating happens because one feels unhappy, so by staying in a positive mind, you cut out that unhealthy dependence on food to be happy.

Journal out unhappy thoughts. One great way to purge negativity from within is to do brain dumping exercises whenever you feel frustrated. Journal out your deepest thoughts. Don’t keep these thoughts pent up inside of you – it’s not healthy.

Breathe. Deeply. Oxygen is a vital source of life. You may know how to breathe, but are you breathing properly? Most of us don’t breathe properly – we take only shallow breathes and breathe to 1/3 of our lung capacity. Athletes are coached proper breathing techniques to get their best performance. A full breath is one where your lungs are completely filled, your abdomen expands and there’s minimum movement in your shoulders.

Your mood and mind play a big part in a complete healthy you!

Maintenance Tip

Here are some tips for a happy garbage disposal…

Good Things to Do

  • Drop a few ice cubes into the disposal and switch it on to clean the walls of the disposal
  • Run the disposal often to keep it from locking up
  • Place a few orange peels into the disposal and switch it on to deodorize
  • A capful of white vinegar is also a great deodorizer

Bad Things to Do

  • Putting too many potato skins or pasta in the disposal. The starch will gum up the blades and clog the drain
  • Pouring grease, oil, and fat into the drain. This will accumulate over time and will cause a clog in the pipes and disposal that will be very difficult to clear
  • Stopping the motor before everything is grinded up could jam your disposal

Dumpster Diving!

Not a pretty job. That is what our service team must do when the compactor is jammed.

PLEASE, when you bring your garbage to the compactor DO NOT leave it on the edge, be considerate and just push it into the compactor. Otherwise this will cause a chain reaction and we will have a huge pile of garbage piled up outside the compactor. It’s messy, smells bad, and isn’t fair to our service team. Thank you for being considerate!

Pet Care

Did you know that your pet will live a longer and healthier life when they are spayed and neutered.

Having your pet “fixed” will also cut back on bad behaviors!

The Hilton Head Humane Association’s Lowcountry Spay Neuter Clinic offers low cost services for your pets. http://www.hhhumane.org/?page_id=582.
