Consider the boiled peanut: People tend to either love or hate this Southern treat. But those who love it really love it, as evidenced by the Bluffton Boiled Peanut Festival. If you live in apartments in Ridgeland, SC, head to the Third annual Bluffton Boiled Peanut Festival on Aug 23 from Noon-6pm at the Bluffton Promenade, it’s free!
“It’s a full day of activities on the Promenade here in Bluffton, where we celebrate boiled peanuts,” says Mike Covert, whose business, is a festival sponsor. “We’ve got the Lil Goober and Lil Miss Goober contests, boiled peanut eating contests and other contests throughout the day, like a boiled peanut cook off.
There will be two concerts with the Georgia Mountain Stringband and Waits & Co along with lots of other fun stuff. This has become one of the biggest events, next to the Bluffton Village Festival.
In the cook off, judges will be looking for Overall Best Boiled Peanut, Most Creative Boiled Peanut and Most Traditional.
There will also be a boiled peanut eating contest which is quite competitive, along with about 30 vendors. There will also be food, crafts, and music all day along with a kids’ zone.
