There are landmarks or places in a community that hold it together. For residents of homes and apartments in Ridgeland, SC that place is the Jasper County Farmer’s Market. The Jasper County Farmers Market used to be called the "bean shed" or the "cucumber shed", and in fact, a lot of people here still call it that. It was built back in the 60’s as a farmers market but was also used as a bean packing shed. Many of the people in the community remember working there as a child.
Sunrise Easter services were held at the “bean shed” which fell into disrepair, and wasn’t used for 20 years. It has since been fixed up by the community and Jasper County, and now the building is used for a farmer’s market every Friday. There is a retail market held in the building which hosts a variety of vendors including produce, baked goods, prepared meals, arts, crafts and estate sales. There is also a wholesale to which Restaurants can come to buy wholesale produce from community farmers.
An auction house regularly uses the building as well. Picnics and oyster roasts are also held here. If you're looking to host your next event, The Farmer's Market is available to rent for family reunions, company picnics, and wedding receptions. On October 22, Edwin McCain will be in concert here. Gates open at 7 pm and concert starts at 8 pm. Tickets on sale now - $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
This market boasts community and this landmark is just one of the places that makes Ridgeland special.
