CNN reports that McDonald’s makes its Chicken McNuggets with the chemical preservative tertiary butylhydroquinone (tBHQ), a petroleum-based product. Those yummy petroleum-packed McNuggets also contain the ingredient dimethylpolysiloxane (an anti-foaming agent). That particular ingredient is found in Silly Putty also!
But don’t freak out just yet, because the World Health Organization found no adverse health effects. The percentage contained in McNuggets is so small, that it won’t affect a person. It’s still kind of alarming that something contained in Silly Putty is cooked into a popular McDonald’s entrée’.
Marion Nestle, author of What to Eat says as a general rule, she advocates not eating any food with an ingredient you can’t pronounce. If that’s the case, we all would be fast food free in one day!
