Do you want to host a holiday dinner party at your apartment, but you don’t have a clue where to start? Don’t fret! The key to having a successful dinner party is to be organized and plan ahead.

First and foremost, keep it simple! This is especially important if you are planning your very first dinner party.  It is possible to have a fantastic party while keeping it simple at the same time. For example, don’t waste your time planning elaborate dishes that you have no clue how to cook! Instead, make scrumptious dishes that you are comfortable with preparing. Besides, you don’t need to serve complicated dishes around the holidays since many of your guests are probably expecting a traditional holiday dinner.

It’s a good idea to mix and match homemade dishes with ready made dishes from your local grocery store. This tip will save you a lot of time, and no one will know the difference unless you tell them! So, if your local bakery sells a sweet potato pie that you absolutely love, simply pick up a couple for your party. You already know that it is going to be yummy! Also, save additional time by making some of your dishes the day before the actual party and reheating them right before your party begins.  Here are some items that you can make ahead of time:

• Shortbread Cookies
• Vegetables with Dip
• Mashed Potatoes
• Cheese Tray
• Pudding
• Cake
• Shrimp Tray
• Cheese Tray

In addition, don’t stress out about your table setting. If all else fails, simply pull out your handy white tablecloth! You can make it more festive by adding a creative centerpiece. Some suggestions include:

• Red Flowers
• Red, Silver or Gold Candles
• Pinecones or Glass Ornaments in a Clear Bowl

Hello Auston Chase! Chicken Alfredo is one of my favorite pasta dishes. However, I do not enjoy it to oftien because it is high in fat and calories. Chef Jason Hill of Chet Tips demonstrates how you can make low fat alfredo sauce for your creamy chicken alfredo pasta dish. Watch the video below for details.

Low Fat Alfredo Sauce Recipe

1 head of cauliflower

Pinch of salt

1 tbl butter

¼ tsp Italian seasoning

¼ tsp red pepper

1 tsp garlic shallot puree or 1 minced clove of garlic

½ cup cream

½ fresh grated parmesan cheese

1 ½ cup Chicken stock or veggie stuck

Sautéed mushrooms (optional)

1 tsp of kosher salt

½ tsp of white pepper

Pinch of Parsley

Chicken Marsala

4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, pounded to about 1/4-inch thickness between two sheets of plastic wrap

1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon fresh cracked pepper
1 tablespoon dried oregano
8-12 mushrooms, sliced
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup marsala wine

1/2 stick butter

1/4 cup sherry wine

3. Finger Foods. I enjoy cooking tacos for my apartment parties. They are inexpensive and when you add chips and queso it adds a nice theme to your party.

Department stores like JcPenny and Kohl’s are running sales for the holiday. Don’t limit yourself to just clothing at these retailers. You can even save on  bedding and other household items for your apartment at Auston Chase. If you are just looking to do some clothing shopping you may want to try Old Navy.
