If you live in an apartment in Ridgeland, SC and you are looking for a quick, easy vacation before the summer winds down, we have a great place that is less than 2 hours away.
This week, CNN Travel offered us “America’s Most Charming Inns” and there is one right in our backyard; Little St. Simons Island, St. Simons Island, Georgia.
This quaint getaway is indeed away from everything. Frozen in time for a hundred years, Little St. Simons Island in Georgia is practically isolated on a 10,000-acre island full of beaches and breathtaking scenery.
Little St. Simons Island is good at "leaving well enough alone." That is to say, the 10,000-acre island with seven miles of deserted beaches is nearly exactly as it was when Eagle Pencil Company owner Philip Berolzheimer purchased it in 1908. He originally intended to make pencils out of the island's many red cedars, but soon decided it would be better if they stayed put in the atmospheric wilderness retreat.
In 1979, his descendants chose to open the island for other travelers. Due to its intimate size and secluded nature, this property is an easy fit for buyouts. The proprietors planted a USDA-certified organic garden on site in 2006 to stock the inn's kitchen. Trained naturalists lead boating, fishing, hiking and birding excursions.
